Youth For Peace – Local workshops
As part of the Youth for Peace in the Mediterranean Sea project, four local workshops were organised in Rabat. They brought together 17 participants, including law students, youth workers, NGO members, and volunteers. Each session focused on different topics such as conflict resolution, justice, diplomacy, and health equity. The aim was not only to raise awareness, but also to help participants develop useful skills and a mindset for positive change.
Workshop 1: Understanding Conflict Resolution
Date: April 27, 2026 | Module: 1
That session focused on conflict as something we all experience in friendships, in families, at work, or in community spaces. Instead of treating conflict as a negative thing, participants explored how it can actually be used to create better communication, mutual understanding, and even growth.
The group discussed what causes conflict and how personal conflict styles affect the way we respond. Participants shared their own experiences, reflected on what triggers them, and practiced techniques to deal with difficult situations more calmly and constructively.
The most powerful part of the workshop was the role-play activity. Each person had a chance to step into a real-life conflict situation and test out new strategies. This allowed them to apply what they learned in the session in a way that felt practical and real.
To improve future sessions, it was suggested to break the workshop into two shorter parts and include a quick self-assessment quiz to help participants identify their conflict styles early on.
Workshop 2: Justice Puzzle
Date: April 27, 2025 | Module: 2
This workshop introduced participants to the core concepts of social justice: fairness, equality, equity, and human rights. The atmosphere was lively and thoughtful. It began with a creative puzzle activity where participants matched key justice terms, sparking conversations about how these concepts appear in daily life.
Participants then split into groups to discuss real examples of injustice and brainstorm ideas for awareness campaigns. Some created posters, others designed social media content, and one group performed a role-play.
The level of participation was high. To enhance future sessions, it was suggested to include a warm-up on justice concepts and offer visual templates to support campaign development.
Workshop 3: Med Voices United
Date: April 27, 2025 | Module: 3
This session was a creative simulation of diplomacy. Participants acted as representatives of different countries and NGOs, tasked with negotiating solutions to shared challenges such as climate change, economic instability, and migration.
Some participants fully embraced their roles, while others needed more support. By the end, a co-written resolution reflected both governmental and NGO perspectives.
The main challenge was uneven participation. Future versions should include smaller groups, printed role cards, and a brief intro to negotiation techniques.
Workshop 4: Integral Health
Date: April 27, 2025 | Module: 4
This workshop explored the link between health and social justice. Participants reflected on how factors like income, gender, education, and geography influence access to healthcare.
Using role-play, participants stepped into the shoes of marginalized individuals to build empathy and insight. The energy and openness of the group stood out.
The session ended with each participant writing one actionable step to promote health equity in their community. To enhance future sessions, it was suggested to include real-world case studies and emotional storytelling exercises.
Final Reflections
All four workshops offered something unique but were united by a common message: peace, justice, and equity begin with awareness and grow through action. These weren’t lectures they were immersive learning experiences built on group dialogue, creativity, and personal stories.
Participants left with knowledge, confidence, and tools to make real changes in their communities. The impact will continue to ripple through their efforts, one initiative at a time.
